Add Space is a project created to bring artworks to public spaces traditionally used for advertising in Tulsa, OK. The eighth iteration of this project, curated by Justin Ortiz, will feature works by artists Sasha Gordon, Lynda SmithSchick, and Torbjørn Rødland on billboard spaces throughout downtown Tulsa.

When thinking about what kind of artwork should go on a billboard in Tulsa, OK, where I’ve found myself for the past 5 years, I kept coming back to the bizarre, out of place nature of the advertisements scattered throughout the city. Knowing this iteration of Add Space was happening in the brutal heat of August made it all the more clear that the billboards would give testament to the surreal, dizzying, and oh so drenched sensations of walking through Downtown Tulsa at the end of summer. The selected artists, Sasha Gordon, Torbjørn Rødland, and Lynda SmithSchick, offer up works that emit a monumental, blinding reflection of the inescapable heat that is all around us.
